The Study by the Sea Experience
Pause and Pray is free of charge, with food and retreat materials provided.
What's it like?
- Enjoy an open and flexible schedule to study, eat home-cooked meals, and rest at your own pace.
- Retreatants will have a private room with a desk and access to shared study space with ocean views.
- Opportunities for prayer and reflection, including spiritual conversations and Mass, with contemplative offerings including art, meditation, and movement.
- Study by the Sea is offered at the end of the fall semester.
- Transportation is provided.

Who attends?
All undergraduate students are welcome to participate in the Study by the Sea Retreat. The retreat is rooted in the Catholic, Ignatian tradition, and is open to students of all faith backgrounds.ÌýSpace is limited, so please apply as soon as possible.Ìý
*Please Note: Undergraduate students are asked only to register and attend ONE Study by the Sea Retreat per academic year, to best accommodate increased student interest. Thank you for your cooperation!
Costs
The cost of the retreat is $50, including:
- Lodging
- Food
- Transportation
- Retreat materials
Campus Ministry wants to ensure that cost does not prohibit any student from attending the Imagine Retreat. Please indicate if a financial need exists within the application and a campus minister will be in touch.
The Fall Study by the Sea retreat will take place from December 11-12, 2026 at the Bellarmine House.Ìý
Registration will open on October 5, 2026, and close on November 27, 2026.Ìý
The Spring Study by the Sea retreat will take place from May 7-8, 2027 at the Bellarmine House.
Registration opens in the Spring.
After participation in the Study by the Sea Retreat, students will be able to:
- Define the Jesuit principle of cura personalis and its connection to their daily lives and academics.
- Practice Ignatian approaches to prayer, reflection, mindfulness, and contemplative rest.
- Identify connections between well-being, spirituality, and academic balance.
- Develop habits of reflection and self-awareness that foster attentiveness to self, others, and God.
