Research Interests
Nathaniel鈥檚 research interests center on the processes and outcomes of psychotherapy. Specifically, he has worked to develop and test interventions to promote forgiveness, to understand the impact of integrating religion and spirituality into psychotherapy, and to reduce the stigma associated with seeking counseling. His most recent interest is leveraging physical exercise to make psychotherapy more effective.

Dr. Nathaniel Wade is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the 艾可直播 College Lynch School of Educational and Human Development. He is the founding Director of Network Community Counseling Services, a training clinic specializing in group psychotherapy. In addition to being a licensed psychologist in Iowa and Massachusetts, he is also a Certified Group Psychotherapist.聽
Following the completion of his undergraduate program, Dr. Wade worked for four years as an Addictions Counselor in both an abstinence-based agency and a methadone clinic. He then went on to attend graduate school for Counseling Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University. Following the completion of his Ph.D. in 2003, he joined the Iowa State faculty.
At Iowa State, Dr. Wade served as Professor of Psychology, Associate Department Chair, and Training Director of the Counseling Psychology PhD program. In 2026, he moved to Massachusetts to open a private practice with his wife, Elizabeth, an LMHC.聽
Dr. Wade's research centers on the processes and outcomes of psychotherapy. Specifically, he has developed and tested interventions to promote forgiveness, to understand the impact of integrating religion and spirituality into psychotherapy, and to reduce the stigma associated with seeking counseling. His most recent work leverages physical exercise to make psychotherapy more effective. He has published three edited books, over 100 scholarly articles and chapters, and has received over 7 million in grant funding. He is an APA fellow of two divisions: Group Psychology and Psychotherapy (49) and the Society of Counseling Psychology (17).
When not working, he enjoys spending time with family, hiking in the mountains of New England, listening to podcasts or audiobooks while working outside, and playing soccer each week with the 鈥渙ver the hill鈥� crowd.
