I’m reminded each morning when I wake up in the thousand count extravagance that something is different. I look up, and something is different. We used to have high, high sloping ceilings, make of wooden planks. Arranged like stripes. I used to count them when I woke up, the stripes. I would count from one end to the other. When I reached the other side, I knew it was time to get up.Now, the ceilings are still high, but are white. Just plain white. How do I know when to get up?*double chin*

How do I know when to get up?

Seal. The cat.
He understands the thrill of the chase. Once he catches up with it, the ball of yarn isn’t really all that interesting after all.
Sometimes it’s just more fun chasing, so maybe.. don’t speed up. You’ll be in a place of bliss, with every small thing making you smile.
Awesomeness.
You don’t really want to catch up, really. You’ll just find that life doesn’t have any surprises in store for you, all it has is a big fat anti-climax.
It’s always more fun in your head anyway. So keep chasing, don’t catch up.
Unless of course, you have to, then I guess you gotta beat everyone else to it. Lest you’ll just be found wanting.

A state of being

Happiness. It is an acute sensation.

It is usually associated with family. And taking your shoes off in fancy places. It is also associated with long stemmed glasses. It can be present in the absence of a smile.

It is also associated with laughter: in this picture, more likely a mixture of giggling and snorting. And sitting cross-legged bare foot in fancy places. And drinking from long stemmed glasses.

It is the view after a long walk of rolling hills. Of rocky cliffs. The village by the sea.

It is the culmination of hard work. It is the gathering of loved ones. The unintentional colour coordination.

It is the gathering of good friends. It is a collection of smiles. A carousel ride.

It is the flying kiss. And the flashing lights. The loud circus music.

It is the amusement of her fear. It is the camaraderie. A ferris wheel ride.

It is of good friends. Of goofing around. And also, it is about a mac :)

It is of sunsets, sunsets you’ve never seen. It is of the number 8.

It is of the silent, solitary scene. Of the mesmerising reflection, flickering with the cool night breeze.

It is fleeting and should not be taken for granted. It rarely visits now.

I settle for being content.

Who will look at my bruise now that you’re no long here with me? Who will kiss it and make it better?

I have been lied to. Sniff.

Everything is still so exciting. The alarm goes off and my eyes open and I smile - going to work today!! No dilly-dallying in bed waiting for the backup alarms to go off. I breakfast. I drive up towards the hospital. Look at the beautiful building, so beautiful it makes me smile again. I arrive early. I update the bloods folder. It rules my life at the moment. But I love it. It has to be perfect. I love it.

In the first three days, everytime my bleep went off, I was terrified. What did I do wrong?

Now the bleep goes off. And I think: What do you want now?

The bleep novelty lasted three days. I wonder how long the novelty of working will last.

For the moment, I’m just going to love every busy moment. Love every missed meal. Love the subsequent meal more because of said missed meal. Love the satisfaction of colouring in the square next to each job. Love my clipboard. And of course.. Love my bloods folder.

A week in the life of Suan in Penang

For Cheryl and Kristy and May, so then you guys can pretend you’re here with me :)

It took me three different goreng pisang shops because I was finally redirected to the fourth stall which had some. Apparently, all the bananas in Penang are NOT YET RIPE, will only ripen on Saturday - so there were NO BANANA FRITTERS. I don’t understand.

And also some ice cream to go with it. That’s the way to have your banana fritters. Cannot have it plain, cannot have it with another ice cream flavour. Cannot.

Last night, we had a small dinner party at our place. And look at the legendary cheesecake. Amazing. I tried to make it once in London - fail.

And the night before we had the good meal at the fine dining area, which turned out to be a rowdy drunken buffet dinner style, with everyone standing up and congregating in the center from different tables - all catching up. Lacking etiquette, but rich in camaraderie.

Time to take a break.
