Scholarly Reflections on Teaching

Scholarly Reflections on Teaching is a 艾可直播speaker series that asks individual 艾可直播to unpack the various sources 鈥� disciplinary expertise, careful observation of student learning, scholarship on teaching, attentiveness to their own experience, etc. 鈥� that inform their pedagogical practice and spur creative experimentation in teaching. Each year, the CTE partners with different campus stakeholders to bring together speakers on a particular theme.

Read, Think, Talk: Reinvigorating the Fundamentals of the Liberal Arts

The liberal arts tradition is a cornerstone of higher education, and many 艾可直播continue to feel deeply committed to the skills, values, and scholarly orientations it espouses. Alongside that commitment, changing contexts and challenges 鈥� including聽 barriers to students鈥� sustained engagement with texts, academic risk-taking, sense of belonging, etc. 鈥斅� are pushing 艾可直播to get clearer about what is fundamental about the liberal arts tradition and why it continues to matter to them and to their students. Inspired by a course of the same name envisioned by a BC 艾可直播member, the 鈥淩ead, Think, Talk鈥� series will feature BC 艾可直播reflections about how their interpretation of the liberal arts has changed and their experiments intended to recenter the liberal arts in their varied and shifting classroom contexts.

Part of the Center for Teaching Excellence鈥檚 Scholarly Reflections on Teaching program, and organized in partnership with the Institute for the Liberal Arts, this year鈥檚 series meets monthly over lunch and concludes with a late afternoon reception in March.
